Sake has been a central part of Japanese Culture for more than 2000 years. Sake is pronounced Saa K The Saa should sound like Sr. Sake holds a very special significance in Japan and is used in ceremonies and as offerings in Shinto Shrines which is Japans ancient (and current) Animist Religion. All our items are pre-loved vintage and antiques bought in Japan. The ceramic range goes from beautiful handmade pottery to fine porcelain. Japan has many potteries scattered all over with various styles and traditions. In Japan Pottery is considered the highest art form particularly in the form of Tea Ceremony (Chado - The Way of Tea). The other 2 fine arts are Incense appreciation (Kodo - The Way of Incense) and Calligraphy (Shodo - The Way of Calligraphy). In Japan the highest priced art objects are simple Tea Bowls (Machawan). Living in Japan in the early 70's I noted that The Japan Times printed a yearly list of the 10 wealthiest people and it was telling about Japanese values at the time that 5 or 6 were potters. (Hard to Imagine as Japan at the time was the second biggest economy in the world). Our items are made from the following materials clay or porcelain, cast iron, copper, cedar, cyprus, bamboo, glass. We have mainly Sake bottles (Tokuri), cups (Guinomi) and related items.
